Overview

The Dr Kenneth District Municipality prioritised engineering design projects within the JB Marks Local Municipality, focusing on the Vyfhoek and Mooi River areas. Delta Scan completed a comprehensive topographical survey for a proposed 15ML reservoir at the Vyfhoek Reservoirs Site and a 10km Eden Pipeline.

Scope of work

The survey included precise level measurements for bottom water levels, top water levels, pump station floors, pump discharge centrelines, and discharge pipe inverts across three pump stations (stations 2 and 3 combined in one building).

The team conducted Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning to identify all existing underground services and infrastructure along both project sites, meeting all engineering requirements and project specifications.

Compliance standards

  • Geomatics Profession Act 19 of 2013
  • Digital Elevation Model data standards
  • COTO's TMH11 Standard Survey Methods (version 3 or earlier)
  • World Geodetic System (WGS 84) alignment
  • Mean Sea Level (MSL) height references
  • Survey Control Points linked to the National Trigonometric / Trignet Network
  • Equipment with certified calibration certificates (within 12 months)
  • Registered Engineering Surveyor (PLATO-certified)

Deliverables

  • Digital Terrain Model (DTM): Survey points with X, Y, Z coordinates in ASCII and ESRI Grid Format files
  • 3D models and drawings: Complete technical documentation
  • Digital orthophotography: Image files of surveyed areas
  • Fieldbook and landXml files: Compatible with AutoCAD Civil 3D (TDS Format)
  • Contours: Generated at 0.5 metre intervals using splines
  • Line mapping: CAD / DXF and shapefile formats showing 1 metre contours, property boundaries, services, and survey controls
  • GPR scan reports: Delivered in CAD and KML formats with orthophoto underlayment

Outcome

Delta Scan successfully provided critical survey data, including detailed measurements and advanced GPR scans, thereby identifying existing underground services and infrastructure. The comprehensive deliverables enabled the municipality to access accurate data for future planning and infrastructure development in the region.
